NATURAL/HEALTH
CHARACTERISTICS

Since bison meat has very little intramuscular fat it scores favorably lower on cholesterol, fat and saturated fat when compared to beef, pork, skinless breast of chicken and even most fish.

These traits, combined with the environmentally friendly grower practices of The Buffalo Guys producers, assure that the bison meat you eat will be free of pesticides, antibiotics and growth hormones.

Omega-3, Omega-6 and CLA

Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid classed with the polyunsaturated fats.  This substance has been found to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.

Omega-6 is a closely related fatty acid that is commonly present with Omega-3.  While increased amounts of Omega-3 fats have proven to be beneficial the inverse is true of the Omega-6 fats.  The best way to judge whether the Omega content of a product is helpful is to look at the ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fats.

Commodity beef typically has an Omega ratio of 20:1 to 30:1.  The Buffalo Guys meat has a very beneficial ratio of about 6:1. Click here to see the actual lab reports done on our very own meat.

CLA or Conjugated Linoleic Acid is a substance that has been attributed with various antioxidant and anti-tumor properties.  Studies on CLA in humans show a tendency for reduced body fat, particularly abdominal fat, changes in serum total lipids and decreased whole body glucose uptake.

Once again, this beneficial substance can be best found in The Buffalo Guys buffalo meat!

What Is All Natural?

All Natural is a USDA-approved term that requires the product to be made without the use of artificial ingredients. Our products easily meet these strict standards. In a nutshell, what this means to you is that our products contain no MSG, Nitrates, Nitrites, Sodium Benzoate, Hydrogenated Oils, Artificial Sweeteners nor Artificial Preservatives. Additionally, our meat is raised without the use of growth hormones, sub-therapeutic antibiotics nor do we feed animal by-products to our buffalo. Our growing and animal husbandry practices are explained in greater detail within this website.

On Mad Cow Disease

Mad Cow Disease (bovine spongiform encephalopathy), also sometimes referred to as BSE, has NEVER been observed in an American Buffalo. Mad Cow Disease is spread through the feeding of animal by-products to ruminants. This practice is strictly forbidden for any of The Buffalo Guys growers.

Frozen vs. Fresh

Properly frozen meat has many benefits over fresh meat. Firstly, our frozen meat is fresher. That’s right; our meat is fresher than what you can get at your local butcher. That’s because immediately after harvest our meat is transported directly to a professional cold storage facility where it is quickly frozen at -10F to -20F temperatures with large fans to further accelerate the freezing process.

Once meat is frozen it effectively stops the aging process and can be safely kept without damage to flavor, texture or nutritive qualities for over a year. Conversely, meat kept chilled significantly degrades each day and must be used or disposed very soon. You know how long our meat has been kept chilled. How long has the meat at your local butcher been chilled? Does anybody really know? Recently the Wall Street Journal did a blind taste test of several meat purveyors and found that the frozen steaks actually outperformed the fresh steaks in several instances! Buy Frozen and Eat Fresh.

On Gluten Intolerance or Celiac Disease

Gluten intolerance or Celiac Disease is a growing problem in the United States. In fact, one out 133 people in the United States has Celiac Disease. Those affected with Celiac Disease experience serious discomfort when ingested gluten sets off an autoimmune reaction that causes the destruction of the villi in the small intestine and seriously interferes with nutrient absorption and good health. People with gluten intolerance should totally eliminate foods that contain gluten from their diet. The Buffalo Guys raw buffalo meat, hot dogs and jerky are all certified Gluten Free by the USDA. Click here to read more about Celiac Disease.
